My First Buck
« on: December 05, 2008, 10:17:31 PM »
i tried muzzle loading this year for deer.  i could only hunt opening weekend in the early season.  missed at a doe.  had to wait until late season and went out on the 26th.  got set up and after about an hour of sitting, i saw a flash at the edge of the woods.  he walked a little further and i then realized it was in fact a deer.  i had shooting sticks, but they wouldn't work for the angle the deer was at.  i didn't want to lose the chance so i went off hand, aimed a little high because i had only been sighted in at around 80 yards.  the total distance ended up being around 200 yards.  not too bad for open sight muzzleloader  :chuckle:

actually i was aimed at the high shoulder, he was walking to the right, and i have always pulled a little to the right.  the picture is actually of the exit wound.

does anybody know if they have a tendency for brow tines to split on one side or the other? mine is on the left, the right side had a little bud of a second one though, but on my dad's from last year the split is on the left side as well.
